Besides the key visual as you can watch in the photo above, the official website of the Gate anime has revealed on Friday that the 2nd season of anime series (The 2nd cour) will air on Tokyo MX TV and other Japanese TV stations on January 9, 2016.
It has been previously revealed on last September in episode 9 of the series that the second cour of anime has been set to return in January 2016, and will cover "Ark Flame Dragon Arc".
Both the main cast and staff will return from the 1st season.
The returning "Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets" band will perform the opening theme song titled "GATE II - Sekai wo Koete". While, the voice actresses Nao Tōyama, Hisako Kanemoto and Risa Taneda will return to perform the untitled ending theme song as their characters.
Plot:
The story begins sometime in the 21st century, when a portal known as the"Gate" appears in the Ginza district in Tokyo, where monsters and knights of the Middle Ages of Europe and other fantasy beings begin pouring down from the portal and begin killing people in Tokyo.This event is known as the Ginza Incident.
The government sends a squad of soldiers in the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to an alternative world behind the gate. Led by an otaku soldier named "Yoji", they find that the towns in this world are under attack by a dragon. A girl named "Elf" who survived from the dragon's tizzy joins the group in its dangerous adventure across this new strange world.
